"Too Far to Walk" -- Day 1

Today marks the first day of our adventure, an adventure that has been in the making for almost 4 months now. Today also marks the 85th birthday of a Mr. Forrest Fenn, who created this adventure in the first place. We didn't even mean to set out on such a special date, which I'm going to assume can only mean good luck for us. :)

For those of you who don't know, we are setting out on a journey to find hidden treasure -- yes, you read that right, this airplane-flying, Hilton-staying, play-it-safe-vacation kind of girl has packed a backpack (yes, only a small backpack) and has set out on a 30-hour (each way) road trip with two crazy guys in hopes of solving Forrest's poem.

We won't tell you our EXACT theory (sorry, #fennsfriends), but we can tell you it includes lots of hiking around Wyoming and Montana -- which, let's be real, is a worthy adventure with or without the $2 million in gold at the end of the rainbow (or waterfall?).

Today we drove through 5 states -- Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Nebraska for a total of 850 miles. We stopped in each state to take a picture, which we promise will be more exciting once we leave the perpetual cornfields.

Indiana

Illinois

Missouri

Iowa

Nebraska

We are also spending the night in Omaha, Nebraska with John Michael (who went to school with Brian and Zach) and his wonderful family. We are so grateful for their hospitality! I would say that Forrest actually meant his treasure to be the "treasure of friendship", but let's get serious. Two million is at stake (which is, approximately, 14.53 international adoptions after the IRS, the investors, and our researchers have their share, just for reference).

For now, hang tight! We'll be in Wyoming by tomorrow night. If you so desire, you can also read more about Forrest Fenn and his Thrill of the Chase here: http://www.ttotc.com. Or you can relive the magic of the guys being interviewed about FF for the local news: http://www.lex18.com/Global/story.asp?S=29836081.  Follow our updates using the hashtags #fennsfriends and #fennswilmorefriends.
